Holidays in Tuscany in September

If you travel to Tuscany in September you can enjoy a relaxing holiday, explore the area, visit wine estates and taste exquisite local dishes in Tuscan restaurants, osterias, trattorias and pizzerias.

In Tuscany the children go back to school the second week of September after a long, 3 months summer holiday.
On average the weather remains nice with milder temperatures. The crowds are gradually invading the cities again, at the seaside the season is running towards the end, but for the countryside this period is very interesting.

Bolgheri Castle (LI)
In the famous wine regions like Chianti, Montalcino, Scansano, Montepulciano, Bolgheri and Massa Marittima, the wine grapes are harvested and people work hard to obtain the best quality for the Tuscan wines.

If only sunbathing is not your thing but you prefer enjoying the late summer temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees C° then this period is ideal for you. You can take advantage of the mid season tariffs for your stay and for your car rental, and you can explore Tuscany by car, by bike or on a scooter or Vespa which you can rent in one of the local scooter rentals.

Buonconvento (SI)
In September the number of local festivals or sagras in Tuscany is decreasing but you will definitely find a sagra near your accommodation. There is the Sagra del Capitone, local festival with dishes with eel in Cinigiano (GR) near Mount Amiata, the Fiera e Sagra della Nana in Monte San Savino near Arezzo, the Sagra del Tartufo, local festival with specials based on truffle in Girone near Florence, the Sagra della Val d’Arbia in Buonconvento near Siena, or from end of September, five weekends Sagra della Polenta in Gavorrano (Bivio Ravi) in the province of Grosseto.

Finally there are some interesting yearly events in Tuscany like the Coppa del Chianti Classico, the most important uphill speed event for oldtimers in Europa, and exceptionally this year the world championships cycling in Florence.
