Castellina in Chianti – End of September the Tuscan town of Castellina in Chianti is traditionally the place to be for fans of vintage sports cars. From 26 to 28 September 2014 the 35th edition of the vintage sports car race Coppa del Chianti Classico will take place in this Tuscan Chianti town. The participating race cars are divided into different categories. The admitted sports cars were built between 1931 and 1990. The race exists in a time trial over a distance of 8 kilometers uphill, with an average slope percentage of 5-6%, on the narrow Tuscan roads, through the typical countryside of the Chianti region with its vineyards, olive groves, and rows of cypress trees. The arrival is in Croce Fiorentina.
The organizer of the event, Chianticup Racing, hopes to have as many participants as in the past editions, all with expertly restored gems of vintage sports cars and classic cars. This contest has an increasing interest in recent years in Italy as well as abroad and is now known all over the world among fans of classic cars. For the Chianti region, which is already world famous for its beautiful rolling hills, fragrant olive oil and excellent wines, the race is yet another splendid tourist attraction. Each year thousands of people admire the beautiful sports cars and cheer the participants along the race track.
Chianticup Racing also organizes similar vintage car races in Tuscany, such as the Salita al Castello di Radicofani, the climb to the castle of Radicofani, or the Coppa della Consuma.
On Saturday afternoon 27 September 2014 you can attend the test drives of the Coppa del Chianti Classico,or on Sunday 28 September 2014 from 10.00H you can watch the actual race.
